Obituary for Mrs. Livia Alfonsina Loffredo (Casa)

“Your wings were ready but our hearts were not."

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our “Ma“ and "Nana” –wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Livia Alfonsina Loffredo (Casa) passed away on June 15, 2017 at Bethammi Nursing Home.

Livia was born on February 17th, 1925 in San Gregorio Matese, Provincia Caserta, Italy to Rafaella and Alfonso Casa. She married Salvatore Loffredo in 1949 in Italy and later immigrated to Port Arthur, Canada in August, 1959 with her 3 oldest sons. She worked very hard making sure others were happy and well fed. She spent her time working at many local restaurants like Blue Parrot and Vicky Anne’s where she practiced her cooking skills until she took her position in the family kitchen of Crocks & Rolls where she got to cook for her own family as well as many others including a variety of bands and fans. Her food was legendary and you never left a visit with her, hungry, even if she just “maka you a sandawich."

Livia was strong and selfless and spent her entire life doing things to provide for her family, making sure they did and had things to make them happier. Her own joy came from seeing her children and grandchildren happy and successful. Her heart was huge and she would go without, take on extra cleaning jobs or work extra hours to make sure the ones she loved would want for less. Whether she was sneaking you money to “buya da pizza” or ensuring holiday cards were filled, she was constantly looking out for her family and trying to make their lives easier. She was the glue that held everything together and the reason that no matter where our lives took us, we always remained grounded and connected to each other. Although her love was unwavering, she was fierce, a spitfire of a woman and did not hold back when she was upset or disappointed. No matter how sharp her words, they were always coated with love and support. She was a religious and spiritual woman and was loyal to her beliefs and her love of God. Livia was often concerned and constantly prayed for safety and love to surround those she loved. She led a humble life and wanted to put nobody out. She lived for her love of us and we learned to love because we felt her love. She was proud of us and so our accomplishments are also hers. Her wisdom, advice and love is deep in all of our hearts as we continue on in our lives without her and always remember to “Rimanere Forte” and of course “Justa watchoutta”.

Livia is survived by her sons Sandy (Sylvia), Raffaele (Julie), Bruno (Judy), Frank (Leola), grandchildren Carrina (Joshua), Marlena (Kyle), Jamie, Patrice, Bronson, Luca (Emi), Lia (Tony), Luke (Becky), Jesse (Tyler) , Cody (Lorraine), and Nikko, great-grandchildren Natasha, Aiden, Bailey, Brandt, Aria, Finnley, Anthony and James. She is predeceased by her parents, siblings and more recently her daughter Julia Loffredo and husband Salvatore Loffredo.
