Obituary for Mrs. Laila Tellervo Jamsa (Ventonen)

Mrs. Laila Tellervo Jamsa (Ventonen)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Laila Tellervo Jamsa, age 97 years, on Tuesday June 20, 2017 at her home in Pioneer Ridge.

Laila was born April 12, 1920 in Kannus, Finland, and immigrated to Canada in 1957. She worked as a cook at Eaton's, the Hoito Restaurant, and in the bush camps. In her retirement years, she devoted herself to her church, singing in the choir and of course, cooking. Laila's family was always the most important to her.

She is survived by her children; Ulla (Mauri) Ahokas, Kari, Marjaana (Eero) Martikainen, Eliisa (Lassi) Tuomialho, Johanna (Milan) Dosen, and Simo; grandchildren Tiina, Marko, Pepita, Esa, Sari, Marita, Jari, Seija, Karina, Anna-Katri, Riku, Elina, Mika, Helena, and Michael; and 21 great-grandchildren. Also survived by two brothers, Simo and Esa Ventonen and other relatives in Finland.

Predeceased by her husband Veikko; sons Erkki and Heikki; two grandsons, Kristofer and Paul Eric; her parents and siblings.

Funeral services for Laila will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11:00 am in Hilldale Lutheran Church with Pastor Jari Lahtinen officiating. Interment to follow in the family plot in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to the service in the church.

If friends so desire, donations to Hilldale Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated.

EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, in care of arrangements.
