Condolence: On behalf of our family we would like to extend our sympathy to Bernadette, David, Danny Maureen and your families on the passing of your father. Uncle Bernard was always generous and hospitable. His generosity manifested itself in many ways throughout the years. His leadership in organizing the purchase of Bombay provided numerous occasions for our extended families to gather and celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. Grandma Baxter's 90th birthday party was a good example of creating lovely family memories. Uncle Bernard always welcomed our family when we came back to the Lakehead. His generous spirit, love of family and strong faith will be fondly remembered by our family.
May he rest in peace and may you be comforted by your father's lgeneriys Christian spirit.
Love, Paul, Ines, James & Matthew xo.....

Please accept our deepest sympathies on the loss of Bernie. Mom liked to tell the story of how she went to TBI & saw Bernie to get an insurance policy & was offered a job, too! Condolence: Dear Bernadette, David, Danny, Maureen and Families;
Please allow me to include in this message of sympathy the poem entitled “Omega” that was written by Bernie’s brother Bob in the late 1980’s.

Omega

Come, where love is not measured,
And friendship has no price;
Where justice is really treasured,
And greed does not entice.

Where force has no meaning,
And deception counts for naught;
Where forgiveness is forever,
And pride cannot be bought.

Where people live together
In harmony and peace;
Where needs no longer matter
And wants will finally cease.

Where all is warm felicity
And permanent fraternity:
Ah, for such serenity
I am racing to eternity!

Condolence: Dear Bernadette, David, Danny, Maureen and Families;
Please know that you have our heartfelt and deepest sympathy at this time of great loss.

I will be forever grateful to your father, my uncle Bernie, for encouraging and wisely advising my parents, Patrick and Lillian Baxter, to invest in a new house that was being built on Burriss Street, in Port Arthur, in the early 60’s; and, as well, in a proposed Baxter family camp in the early 70’s that Bernie had envisioned as a gathering place for the extended family on the shore of Lake Superior, which eventually became BALM Bay. These two sound and astute investments, proposed by Bernie and acted upon by my parents, had a tremendously positive, enriching and edifying impact on my siblings and me during our formative years growing up in Thunder Bay. I always admired and respected uncle Bernie for his magnanimity, his selflessness, his incredible generosity, his kindness and compassion, and his extraordinary level of energy and drive - he was truly indefatigable!, and he got things done!! In large part, because of the exceptional man and inspiration that Bernie was, and all that he did for the Baxter family into which I was born, I had the great fortune of growing up in Northern Ontario with a strong sense of belonging, place, history, family and community! Bernie lived his life with great purpose, courage, dignity and faith!; and made a significant difference in life - in all of our lives!

Sincerely,
Ward, Lynn, Jared, Darrell, and Celtae Lynne Baxter (the Baxters of Goderich, Ontario).

Condolence: To me, Uncle Bernard's greatest gifts may have been his kindness and generosity to others. These traits I am sure were fostered by his mother Kathleen Baxter. Grandma, as we knew this lady, always shone with kindness and her son Bernard shared this kindness in the same intensity with his nieces, nephews and their families. Whether at Balm Bay, inspiring the camp spot to be together, or singing silly sings with us kids, uncle Bernard made being in the Baxter family a joy. Many gathering at his home or at Balm Bay are remembered fondly. Thank you Uncle Bernard for filling our family with joy, love and laughter. I know heaven just got a another extra special addition.
Lots of love Anne Legace-Gagnier & family

Condolence From: Maureen McCabe
Condolence: Although I'm not a blood relative, we called him "Uncle Bernie". He went to St. Andrew's with my dad, Earle McCabe and mom when to school with "Aunt Jet" my nickname for her.

Our families were close, I always remember my dad telling the story of being a young boy and the CWL had a bazaar. He and Bernie were playing a 'fishing game" where you put a line over a curtain and you got a prize pinned to it. My dad got his prize first, but Bernie said, "I hope I get a great prize as I will give it to my brother." Guess who got the biggest prize of any child that day.

He was a kind, loving family man. He touched many lives. My condolences to Danny, Bernadette, Maureen and David. May He Rest in Peace.
