Obituary for Mr. Douglas Ulric Guinn

With great sadness, the family of Mr. Douglas Guinn age 84 years, announce that he has passed away in hospital on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

Born in Scarborough, Ontario, he came to Port Arthur in 1966 and has lived here since that time.

An auto body repairman, Doug owned and operated his own business, Thunder Bay Appraisals since 1972.

He was very active in Kinsmen and K40, and was recently recognized for his 50 years of service. Doug was also active in politics and ran for the Conservative Party in 1997. He was president of the Riding Association, and was also on the Board of the Lakehead Conservation Authority and the Lakehead Conservation Foundation. He enjoyed gardening, as well as hunting and fishing. Although Doug was a famous story teller, he could never tell a joke. He would laugh so hard, he'd forget the punch line!

Doug is survived by his wife Darlene, sons Darren and Ian (Lisa), grandchildren Kristine, Georgia, Emily and Cayley, brother William (Doris), sisters-in-law Fay Hammond (Brian), Sandy Ellis (Syd), nephews Rick (Megan), Barry (Marilyn), Randy (Linda), Brad (Karen) Bennett, niece Ann Louise, niece Pam Wark and Deanna Fiset, nephews Brad Hammond and Dan Hammond, Jeff Pinel, nieces Cheryl and Rose (Guinn).

He was predeceased by his mother Gladys and father Orville, a daughter Kimberley, brother Orville, sister Joyce, as well as his beloved pets Winston and Cindy.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Doug Guinn will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 10:30 AM in Trinity United Church with Rev. Randy Boyd officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation for friends will be on Monday afternoon from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

Should friends so desire, donations to the Lakehead Region Conservation Foundation, Thunder Bay and District Humane Society, or the George Jeffrey Children's Centre would be greatly appreciated.
