LARRY MARRIER
March 28, 1920 – August 9, 2017
 
Lorraine “Larry” Edward Marrier, age 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in St. Joseph's Hospital. 

Larry moved with his parents from Stanley, Ontario, to (then) Port Arthur in 1927, where he attended school including Port Arthur Collegiate. He worked as an accountant/office manager for several firms in the Lakehead, including Hewitson Construction and New Idea Sheet Metal, and as assistant to the comptroller at Neelon Casting in Sudbury. He was proud of his service as a lieutenant in the 34th Field Artillery in World War II in the Pacific theatre.

Larry was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church where, among other things, he served on the Session for many years and was a member of the choir for 74 years. But his proudest achievement was as secretary of the committee responsible for the selection and purchase of the magnificent Casavant pipe organ, for which he and another member of the committee designed the cross that graces the front of the chancel.

Larry was a founding member of the local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Lakehead Stamp Club, and the Thunder Bay Share Club. He enjoyed fishing and canoeing, vegetable gardening, stamp collecting, and was a formidable bridge player.

But his greatest joy was his extensive family, of whom he was very proud.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; children Bruce, Marilyn (Blair) Marrier-Oborne, Glen (Peggy), and Peter (Kim O'Grady); grandchildren Wendy, Brenda, Lynn, Bryan, Lidiya and Kebebush; ten great-grandchildren, and long time family friend Brian Hubelit. 

Predeceased by his first wife, Mildred; his parents, Ambroise Pierre Marier and and Ethel Florens Colson; brother Arnold, and daughter in-law Shirley.  

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday August 15, 2017, at 11:00 am at St. Paul's United Church, Waverley Street, with the Rev. Rob Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street.
