Mrs. Genevieve Ruth Sabourin
GENEVIEVE RUTH SABOURIN
Nov. 1, 1935 – Sept. 12, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Genevieve Ruth Sabourin, age 81 years, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, September 12, 2017.

Genevieve was born and raised in Heron Bay and Mobert, Ontario. Her family lived on the land hunting, trapping, fishing and berry picking.

In the 1950's, she left home to work in the Abitibi Bush Camp. It was there that she met Joseph Riives and the two were married. Together, they raised five children in White River, Ontario and in 1970, they moved to Dryden. In 1983, Genevieve moved to Thunder Bay, where she resided until her passing. All of her life, she was hard working and industrious. Genevieve celebrated over 40 years of sobriety, changing her life and that of her family. Her proudest achievements include taking Neechi Institute training as well as tree planting in Northwestern Alberta. To the end, she was dedicated to her family, to her grandchildren she instilled the value of hard work and detailed planning as well as loyalty to family.

Genevieve is survived by her children Rolland (Patricia) Riives, Diana (Oscar) Madussi, Paul (Linda) Riives, Alice Nowegejick-Sabourin and Arnold Riives and their father Ivar Joseph Riives; grandchildren Louise, Dustin, Dena, Dennelle, Khanena, Adrian, Sierra, Jenna, Alexander, Raven, Austin, Brandon, Richard and Donavan and great-grandchildren Colin, Cedar, Linkin, Izzabel and Axel. She is also survived by her siblings Sarah, Edward, Madeline and Ben as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Alice Sabourin; brothers Harvey, Richard, Rene and Nichol; sisters Rita, Jessie and Mary.

As she requested, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Genevieve's life will be held at 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 in the Oliver Road Community Centre, 563 Oliver Road. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 N. May Street, Thunder Bay, ON. If friends so desire, donations made in Genevieve's memory to Grace Place would be greatly appreciated.
