Obituary for Mr. Jarmo Kalevi Huovinen

JARMO HUOVINEN

Mr. Jarmo Huovinen, age 67 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Jarmo was born in Tampere, Finland and came to Thunder Bay at the age of 2 years old with his parents. He was married in 1972 to Ginny, his wife of 45 years. He began working for Ontario Hydro in 1971, then did a foreign project in Iran with the company in 1978. He attended Lakehead University, and following that he ran a Snap-On Tools business. After ending the business he worked as a Millwright at Richardson's Elevator until retirement.

He was an AA-pool player and loved to play with his many friends. He was known to be a gentlemen at all times when competing with friends. He curled at Port Arthur Curling Club. He coached baseball when his son and daughter were involved.

Jarmo was blessed with two children Chris and Carrie-Ann, whom he loved dearly.

Jarmo is survived by his loving wife, Ginny, son Chris (Ashley), grandchildren Sophia and Lucas as well as granddaughter Morgan, to whom he took on the proud role of parent to. He was very proud of his grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Norman Huovinen, and Pirjo Down, nephew Jefferey Down and niece Erin Whiteway.

He was predeceased by his parents, daughter Carrie-Ann, his mother and father-in-law, sister-in-law Judy and nephew Brian.

As per his wishes cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 AT 6:30 pm at the Current River Recreation Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Education Fund of Morgan Huovinen-Hooper, c/o the Royal Bank at Grandview Mall, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
