Obituary for Mr. Antonio Clemenza

Mr. Antonio Clemenza
ANTONIO CLEMENZA

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loving Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend. Antonio Clemenza, age 89 years, passed away in hospital on Monday, January 29, 2018 with family by his side.

Antonio was born in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy on January 9, 1929. In 1949 he met his wife Florenza Montello. In 1963 Antonio, Florenza and children Eugene and Lina immigrated to Port Arthur, Ontario. Shortly after that, their third child John was born. Antonio was also a proud father of Trina and Brian. Antonio began his railway career with CN Rail until retirement. Antonio and his family became longtime residents of Tupper Street. He was then granted with the nickname, “The Mayor of Tupper Street.”

Antonio was a dedicated member of The Italian Cultural Centre. He built long lasting friendships and contributed many volunteer hours. Everyone looked forward to his energetic company and a glass of homemade Vino! Antonio loved taking long car rides with his wife and grandchildren. He would drive for hours to find mushrooms and blueberries in the surrounding areas. He also looked forward to his hunting adventures with his friends. At home he enjoyed tending to the gardening and “holding the fence up.” Antonio grew a passion for traveling to British Columbia with Florenza to visit family and spend time in the orchards.

Antonio is survived by his children Lina Filice (Tony), Eugene (Teresa), John, Trina and Brian; sister Maria and brother Orazio; brother in law Guerino Montello (Emma); grandchildren Bud Filice (Heather), Jim Filice, Frank Filice (Michelle), Lisa Wrigley (Shawn), Michele Harman (Earl), Anthony, Marcedes as well as many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Antonio was predeceased by his wife Florenza; parents Eugenio and Teresa; brothers Angelo, Giuseppe and Raffele and grandson Dave Filice.

Funeral Services for the late Mr. Antonio Clemenza will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 10:30am in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Fr. Luigi Filippini. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time in the Church.

Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph's Care Group, Dew Drop Inn or Salvation Army.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
