Paul Kostur
July 3rd, 1929 - January 24th, 2023

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our Uncle Paul, peacefully on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023.

Paul was born on July 3rd, 1929 in Dnieper, Saskatchewan. He moved to Port Arthur in 1959 with his mother, brother, and sister and her family. Paul taught with the Catholic School Board first in Atikokan and then mainly at St. Peter’s in the East End.

Paul was a member of the Church of the Holy Protection and the Church of Transfiguration. He cantored for many years at funerals and church services. He was very active in the Ukrainian community. Paul sang in church choirs and taught the Ukrainian language at night school to children and anyone interested in learning. He was a member of the Prosvita Societies, working at banquets and making perogies and cabbage rolls to raise funds. Paul was an executive member of various Ukrainian organizations. He loved to play bingo and cribbage. In earlier years, he loved to embroider Ukrainian patterns.

Paul is survived by three nephews Randy, Robert (Lynn) and Ron (Korri) and four nieces Joan (Gary), Sandy (Rick), Kathy (Andre) and Joanne (Grant). Also, many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Maria Kostur, brother Mike, sister Katie (Mike) Nahachewsky and sister Ann (Bill) Bernitsky.

Funeral Services for the late Mr. Paul Kostur will be held on Monday, January 30th, 2023 at 11:00am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Interment will follow in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3:00pm until 5:00pm in the Chapel, with Panachyda offered at 4:00pm.
