The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Mrs. Shirley Benedict can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Don Benedict

Thank You ad in CJ for Saturday, August 26, 2017. *************************** The family of the late Shirley A Benedict would like to pass on a note of thanks to many. Superior North EMS Paramedics cared for her many times well before Shirley's untimely death. On the day of her passing, Paramedic "Fuzzy" was there helping to transfer and joke around with Shirley. Then at Shirley's celebration of life ceremony, SNEMS Paramedics had an honour guard present as guests arrived and stayed well into the ceremony - thank you so much for all your care. Shirley had diabetes and renal failure. Shirley and I joined the Renal Support Group at our hospital about a year ago. They offered a great deal of support to us leading right up to the start of her dialysis just last week. The Renal Nurses were all fantastic teaching us and caring for Shirley. Jessica, Annette, and Nicky are some of the PD nurses that come to mind. Shirley's doctors were many - Leishman, Watson, Abu-Bakare, Cranton, Brimmell, Dhurjon, Hayes, and Henderson were some that I thought of. She couldn't have asked for better medical care right up to her last minutes of life. Thank you for all your care and support through the years. Thanks also to the many health care technicians and especially to Cristine Molenbroek over the past year. Cristine, you are an amazing caring person. Shirley had a group of Dawson Court nurses she kept in regular contact with from way back in 1982. She had another group of student nurses she graduated with a way back in the 70's that I saw her on the phone with many times. She had a small group of close friends in Thunder Bay that seldom a day went by that she was not visiting and phoning them. You wonder how she had time for her immediate and extended families. Well that she did, indeed! Her children and myself cherished every minute we had with her. She had a newly found Roger's Family and her life long Jennings's Family. Both are huge families, but Shirley made sure she got to know each of them well; knowing all their important dates. She even got to know her hair dresser, "Enzo" and treated him like family. At Shirley's celebration of life ceremony held at the North End Recreation Hall, we all found out the very deep impact that Shirley had made on their lives. Father Donnelly at St. Margaret's Church delivered an excellent funeral ceremony arranged on short notice. Finally, thanks go out to the people that sent flowers, food, helped with many things, phoned, texted, emailed or dropped by one of her ceremonies. Shirley's funeral day turned out to be as perfect as one could possibly wish for. ************************* Sent from my iPhone
