Obituary for Mrs. Vera Molenda (Grabowski)

Mrs. Vera Molenda (Grabowski)
Vera Molenda
September 4, 1931 - September 18, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Mrs. Vera Molenda, age 86. Vera passed away peacefully in her Westfort family home on Monday September 18, 2017.

Vera was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1956 after the passing of both her parents. She came to Thunder Bay with her youngest sister Elisabeth to re-unite with their sister Sophie.

In 1957, Vera married Frank, her husband of 54 years. Together, they raised four children and were later blessed with a grandson. Her family was her life, and she would sacrifice anything for their happiness and well-being.

Vera was hard-working and enjoyed the simple things in life. In her earlier years, she spent much of her time gardening, preserving, baking, sewing/knitting/crocheting, and blueberry and mushroom picking with her family. She was a great cook and often prepared traditional German, Polish and Ukrainian foods.
Over the last few years, Vera spent much of her time working on jigsaw puzzles and coloring. On warm days, you would find her on her swing enjoying her perennial flower bed.

She is predeceased by her husband Frank Molenda, parents Johann and Pauline Grabowski, brother Nicolas and sister Sophie Lupp (Hans).

Vera is survived by her children Eric, Ron, Rick, Linda and grandson Tyler, sister Elisabeth Grabowski, niece Liz Johnston (Ian), nephew Leo Lupp (Caroline) and great-niece Stephanie Lupp-Scharer (Matthew). She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

A private funeral ceremony was held at Westfort Chapel, 420 Gore St. West at James with Reverend Randy Boyd officiating. As per Vera’s wishes, she will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband Frank in Mountainview Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Vera’s family doctor, Dr. Jennifer Atwood, for her care and support over the years.

If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
